Blackjack: Game of 21
Blackjack is one of the oldest poker games in the world. It is believed to have originated in England in the olden days and people used to play the game using beans. As a matter of fact, the game’s name ‘Blackjack’ originates from beans.
Blackjack also goes by the slang name of 21. The reason behind this is it is the aim of the game for every player to have a total count of 21 for the cards they hold in their hand at the end of every game. The game is played by the players sitting around a table with a dealer controlling the game. When the game is over, every player lays bare all the cards they hold in their hand. The person who gets a total of 21 or the closest number to this, and beats the hand of the dealer, wins the game. The person who gets more than 21 has “busted” and they lose their bet.
At the beginning of the game, the players place their bet, and then dealer gives every player two cards. In the course of the game, every player is supposed to make prudent decisions whether to ask for additional cards or “stay” if they have 16 or better as the total of the cards they hold in their hand. A hand worth 16 gives the player the option of asking for another card or not. This depends on what the dealer is showing.
